Overview

Department of Zoology was incepted in 1968 and raised to the   status of Undergraduate Department in 1999. In 2004 it was recognized as P.G. Department. The Department offers Human Genetics as optional paper for both B.Sc. and M.Sc. courses. At present we have seven faculty members and two lab assistants. Department conducts Certificate courses in Geographic Information System, Health Care and First Aid, Clinical Laboratory Techniques and add on course in Bioinformatics.

The department publishes the journal Millennium Zoology since 2000 (RNI Reg no. KERENG/2001/6034 AND ISSN no. 0973- 1946). The zoology department is an ISBN approved publishing house with publisher identifier number 909551 under category number 5. We have published a book on Epidemiology and 10 seminar/ workshop proceedings. The PG student’s dissertations are published every year under the name ‘Human genetics’ with mentioning the year. So far we published 15 such books with ISBN number. The department has the glorious record of having produced 16 University rank holders and more than 15 UGC/CSIR JRF -NET holders.

So far we have completed 15 funded National conferences and workshops. A good number of student’s projects are undertaken every year. We are extending consultancy services in fishery, population genetics and epidemiology. The department also conducts state level competition of student’s projects and quiz programme every year. Millennium zoology award for student’s   projects was introduced in 2002 and millennium zoology quiz competition in 2003. The department annually organizes Alumni research seminar (full day) in which the alumni in research career make presentations.
